We love Oprah! They say in order to lead you must be a light. Well, Oprah is shining and showing us the way! She continues to leave an indelible mark on culture through her groundbreaking content on the Oprah Winfrey Network. And now she is cementing her legacy as a philanthropist by donating her time and money to combat Covid 19.

“I think the thing that comes to my heart is growing up with the philosophy instilled that to whom that much is given, much is expected” she emphasized “The essential work, for all of us who have means, is to find a way to give back in a way that can be meaningful to other people.”

Oprah has reminded us why she continues to top the most charitable celebrities list as she is also giving an additional $12 million to help communities hit hardest by the Corona virus as well as places where she grew up, including, Milwaukee, Mississippi and Chicago (a place she called home for the duration of her 25 year long Talk Show).

She shared her philosophy behind giving.

“I was looking…for organizations that were going to have their hands, directly in the community. Whenever I give, any kind of offering, kind of charitable donation, I’m looking to give it to the people who most need it.”

With this $12 million donation,  Oprah has donated more money for Covid than any other celebrity on the planet. In 2005, she similarly gave away $10 million to Hurricane Katrina victims. That’s not even a personal best for the philanthropist, in 2009 Winfrey gave away $40 million to a variety of causes including education and programs for women and children, according to a national philanthropic group.
