While the Wonderful World of Disney is vastly known for having many fairy tale princes and princesses, through the years, Disney has expanded inclusivity with movies like Mulan, The Princess and the Frog, Brave and Moana. For the first time, Disney has it’s first ever live action Black prince. This Is Us star, Niles Fitch is making Disney history! Fitch will be playing Prince Tuma, a “charismatic and self-centered” young prince , according to Entertainment Weekly, in the sci-fi fantasy Secret Society of Second-Born Royals, which is set to stream on Disney+ this summer.

Fitch shared this photo on his Instagram account with the caption, “Welcome Disney’s first black prince.”

Secret Society of Second-Born Royals will follow a group of teenagers who might be second born in their families but they are set to inherit the danger and responsibility of being a monarch without their crowns…because instead they get superpowers. Fitch will play opposite actress Peyton Elizabeth Lee of Disney Channel’s Andi Mack who will portray Sam, “a rebellious princess second-in-line to the throne of the kingdom of Illyria.”

“Sam has always felt like not only is she second born, but she is also second best,” Lee tells EW. “She is struggling to find where she can shine and where she belongs.”

That’s a dynamic many of us can relate to even without being a royal. Disney has created a whole brand new type of prince and princess and I can’t wait to see what these second born royals are capable of.
