NiK Kacy: Embracing the Absence of Gender…Beginning with Shoes | AfterBuzz TV’s LGBTQ&A

NiK Kacy talks about feeling ignored by the fashion industry and why they created their gender equal footwear company. Nik Kacy discusses the difference between “gender equal” and “gender neutral”, immigrating from Hong Kong, pineapple leather as a vegan leather alternative, and why they chose to embrace their masculine and feminine sides.

ABOUT LGBTQ&A:

LGBTQ&A is an interview podcast highlighting the different members of the LGBTQ community — artists, activists, lawmakers, and business people. LGBTQ&A is hosted by Jeffrey Masters and produced by AfterBuzz TV. Interviews are also filmed and available on YouTube.

AfterBuzz TV (Los Angeles, CA) is an online broadcast created by E! Host, Maria Menounos and producer, Keven Undergaro, and has over 23 million weekly downloads in over 150 countries. Nicknamed “the aftershow network”, when viewers finish watching episodes of their favorite shows, they can go to afterbuzztv.com to watch or listen to a post-game after-show where hosts break down that night’s episode and interview cast and crew. The network produces over 90 aftershows per week.

NiK Kacy, who identifies as gender-fluid, queer and trans, designed their first collection of “masculine of center” gender-neutral shoes in order to provide a solution for the on-going problem of individuals unable to purchase men’s styled shoes due to limitations in sizing set by the shoe industry based on gender.
NiK Kacy’s desire for gender equality extends further by expanding their label to include an upcoming “feminine of center” collection, featuring high-heel styled shoes in the same European unisex sizes ranging from 34-47 (US women’s 3.5 to men’s 14), as well as, a unisex accessories line, including holster wallets. NiK Kacy’s philosophy is simple… fashion is about style, and style is not limited by gender or gender expression.

Jeffrey Masters is an actor, host, and writer in Los Angeles. He documents the stories of the LGBTQ community on his podcast, LGBTQ&A, which was recently ranked #2 Buzzfeed’s list of the Top 27 Podcasts to Listen to in 2017.
