Afterbuzz TV Loves The Bryants Weekly

Kobe Bryant brought love and light to many of us. His dedication to his craft, family, and issues that were close to his heart, inspired millions of people. Although we no longer have him in the flesh, his legacy continues on.

While Kobe Bryant’s ‘Geese Are Never Swans’ book was just announced, which addresses how athletes deal with mental health, authors across the globe are continuing to dive into the life of the Black Mamba himself.

On Instagram, Bleacher Report posted that Mike Sielski of the Philadelphia Inquirer will publish a book in the fall of 2021 titled Remember His Name: The Rise of Kobe Bryant. According to the outlet, the text will focus on “his family history, early life and development.”

As a Philadelphia native, Mike Sielski has followed Bryant’s career prior to the 1996 draft and written several articles highlighting Bryants success on and off the court. In addition to his other achievements, Sielski was named the top sports columnist in the USA by the Associated Press’ Sports Editors. After Mike tweeted the news, he received an outpour of love and support from fans who look forward to reading the journalist’s take on Bryant’s life.

While we wait to learn more about Kobe’s background and journey to stardom, we are happy to see  his daughters Natalia, Bianka, and Capri along with his wife Vanessa, enjoying tender moments with their family. This week Capri, the youngest of the Bryant family, took her first steps! Vanessa Bryant posted a heartwarming video with a caption that echoed her excitement.

“My baby!!!! So proud of my Koko Bean. Capri took her first steps from her auntie Sophie to mama today.”

Although Kobe is no longer with us, his message and voice still speak volumes to things that are happening today. Monday night, a black man named George Floyd was pinned down by an officer with a knee on his neck. In a released video, Floyd expressed that he was in pain and couldn’t breathe. His words mirrored another act of police brutality against Eric Garner whose last words also included “I can’t breathe.”

In December of 2014, some Lakers players wore black shirts with Eric Garner’s words written across the front as they warmed up. Among those players was Kobe Bryant who expressed the importance of speaking up on issues in our country.

“I think it’s us supporting that movement and supporting each other as well as athletes,” said Bryant in an interview with The Gaurdian after the game. “I think the beauty of our country lies in its democracy. I think if we ever lose the courage to be able to speak up for the things that we believe in, I think we really lose the value that our country stands for.”

Bryant continued by stating “it’s important that we have our opinions. It’s important that we stand up for what we believe in and we all don’t have to agree with it, and it’s completely fine. That’s what makes this a beautiful country.”

While these profound words were spoken in 2014, they are applicable to the current state of the nation. In order to honor Kobe Bryant, we must continue to use our platform to address injustices. Fans and friends of the athlete are using the six-year-old image of Kobe to emphasize the lack of progress we have made in a country that prides itself on freedom and equality.

Continue to fight for your beliefs and research ways to get involved. Afterbuzz TV has articles to help individuals navigate these troubling times.

We look forward to gaining knowledge from the book, love from his family, and strength from the words Kobe left us with. If you love The Bryants, like we do at AfterBuzz TV, then follow along every week for the newest updates as we remember the life of Kobe Bryant and stay up-to-date with Vanessa, Natalia, Capri and Bianka Bryant.
