ABTV Quarantine With The Stars: Branson Hoog

Branson Hoog is a multi-talented artist and musician, who has had the creativity bug his whole life. Branson is now using all that creativity as an accomplished singer and tattoo artist and he joined me for a fun chat to talk all about his many exciting projects as well as how he’s keeping busy during quarantine.

Branson got his start in music with a high school band and he and that band cut their teeth in bars and restaurants for many years, even getting a chance to perform on the Vans Warped Tour and SXSW. With all of that success already under their belt, Branson’s band Not A Toy finally achieved all of their dreams as they were recently signed by their dream label, FEARLESS Records and released the track “J Cash” as a celebration of their hard work paying off.

When Branson is not fronting the band, he’s also focusing on his other passion in tattoo art. Branson shared that he’s been drawing all his life and got into tattooing as a way to connect with his fans on an extremely deep and personal level. Since Branson’s band leans towards the emo genre and that fanbase is known to struggle with mental health and self-harm, Branson used his tattoo skills to cover up the scars of his fans so that they can work to heal and overcome their struggles.

“In the emo genre, there’s a lot of self-harm and issues with self-love and I really wanted to be able to cover their scars with tattoos.”

These days in quarantine, Branson is spending time with his fiancée and his family in Colorado as COVID19 has put a halt on the live music and tattoo industries. Branson has been keeping his creative juices flowing in all aspects from playing and writing music to art and even a new venture in photography!

As a testament to how kind, cool, and down-to-earth Branson is, he was even so gracious to offer me a tattoo when all this is over, and I just might hold him to that!

If you want to keep up with all things that Branson has going on, be sure to follow him on Instagram and Twitter @bransonhoog and follow his band @NOTATOY to keep up with new music drops and more!
