In an opinion piece for the New York Times, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, shares how she and her husband, Harry have coped with their loss after having a miscarriage this summer.

The three simple words “Are you OK?” are what she asked her husband when they sat in a hospital room later that day, trying to start the healing process.

During these unknown and challenging times it is important to check in and be there for those you care about.

She recalls when the two were on a long tour around South Africa after just having their son and a reporter asked her, “are you OK?” It was something that turned a lot of heads and gathered a lot of media attention.

Markle replied honestly, as she hadn’t been asked a question like that before.

In her piece she shares just how all of us are suffering too from the coronavirus pandemic and the racial injustice at the hands of police in the United States. Being alone during this time it’s important to ask those three words to those around you, are you OK?

Markle went on to share a time when she wished she stopped and asked a woman if she was ok.

“When I was in my late teens, I sat in the back of a taxi zipping through the busyness and bustle of Manhattan. I looked out the window and saw a woman on her phone in a flood of tears… I remember [the taxi driver] telling me. ‘Don’t worry, somebody on that corner will ask her if she’s OK.’”

During the holidays Markle says to call up those you care about as you never know what they are going through.
