Maria Menounos opened up for the first time about her mom’s brain tumor recurrence on a recent episode of Better Together With Maria Menounos. Menounos spoke about finding out about the recurrence on a plane, alternative treatments options in Mexico, and repurposing negative energy into something more positive.
“My mom, we found out recently, has had a tumor recurrence, and when you have glioblastoma that’s to be expected in a sense,” Menounos revealed, “but something you never want to hear happen. And so, it’s been a rough little time.”
Her mother, Litsa, was first diagnosed with glioblastoma, a cancer that forms in the brain, back in August of 2016. Since then, Menounos has spoken publicly about the recovery process, including about her own 2017 health scare that forced her to undergo surgery to remove a benign meningioma.
“There’s no playbook with how to deal with crisis,” Menounos said, “and I want to help people have an easier ride through it.”
Menounos explained that when she found out about her mother’s recurrence, a part of her understandably felt so awful she wanted to cry out to friends and vent about not being able to believe the news. Instead, she took about twenty-four hours, used the method she’s learned from Esther Hicks, and refocused the energy onto what she actually wanted to happen.
Menounos repeated, “no surgery.” She also envisioned seeing her mother healthy. Eventually, the doctors called Menounos back and told her the surgery had been canceled.
“There’s a way to walk through crisis, I think, with a level of positivity,” Menounos said. “Trust me, you’re gonna have your down moments like I’ve, I’ve had them, but if you can more often than not try to focus in this way, you’ll get a better outcome and you won’t get sick helping the sick which is a huge problem no one talks about.”
Menounos then said she would have much more to say on extra episodes for all people who support the show and become a member on Patreon. For anyone who supports the show and joins on that site, they’ll have access to extra bonus content from Better Together With Maria, not found on YouTube.
“Sometimes we don’t get to delve in under the topics of that day’s guests as much as we would like to with everyone,” executive producer Stephen Lemieux said. “Moving forward, we’re gonna start doing quick little after shows, like fifteen to twenty after shows, for our episodes where the same day on Patreon you can get, uh, discussions on kind of how we’re going to more indepthly adapt what we’ve learned that day into our lives and maybe got into more of these stories with Maria.”
