EXCLUSIVE: It’s been several years since Lady Gaga collaborated with choreographer and creative director Laurieann Gibson, but the time may finally be approaching for the two to reconnect.
Gaga and Gibson were dynamic partners for several years, working together on Just Dance, Poker Face, Born This Way, and several other songs that formed the foundation of Gaga’s rise to fame. However, a divide formed between the two and they split in 2011.
Now, Gibson says she’s finally ready to work with the Born This Way singer again.
Absolutely I would be, um, in, in, in a great place to re-collaborate” shared Gibson on To The Pointe with Kristyn Burtt, on Popcorn Talk Network. “I think that’s the first time I’ve said that.”
Between the split and now, Gibson has only continued to excel with other artists. She has worked with Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, and a wide range of other singers. She’s currently a judge on So You Think You Can Dance.
Despite the fact the two haven’t talked in years, there’s still respect.
“When I think about it, I, I have so much love for her. I wish her well,” said Gibson. “I did such great work and it still stands.” Adding, “The fans that know that mother created every step in her hotel room; every possible nuance since before she even signed to Interscope [Records], you know. Um, I didn’t get paid for two years.”
According to Gibson, the impasse between the two formed when the politics of fame got in the way.
“The industry steps in and there’s a lot of voices that, that in–, in–, interfere in the artists when they get huge,” said Gibson. “It’s hard for them to hear the clarity of what was an original, uh, pure creative collaboration.”
Now, the dance world waits to see if Lady Gaga is also ready to reconnect.
