AFTERBUZZ QUARANTINE SESSIONS: ONE WORLD TOGETHER AT HOME

In this turbulent time of quarantine, there are facets of positivity.  We’ve been reminded of how connected we all are, how each life affects all life, and how much we need each other, in a way that elevates us, and we need to remind each other on the regular that even in our lockdown, we are not alone.  Some of our favorite artists and entertainers in every genre of music are using their work to reach out and connect and reassure us that we actually are all in this together. Afterbuzz Quarantine Sessions reports on these performances as they happen.

We’ve been gearing up all week to watch the biggest entertainment event so far in quarantine. Lady Gaga teamed up with Global Citizen for an 8-hour event featuring many of our favorite entertainers on Saturday, April 18 in support of WHO (The World Health Organization).

The first six hours were streamed across the globe on various streaming services. The main telecast aired on many networks and digital platforms. Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert hosted the special and the lineup was made specifically to hit us in all of the feels. Here are my top five performances from the show!

Lady Gaga

All it took was Lady Gaga singing the first note of Smile for me to start tearing up. This was the perfect song to start off the night. Thanks to her and this collaboration, we were all able to come together for this uplifting and informative show.

Stevie Wonder

Stevie paid tribute to his late friend Bill Withers by singing Lean on Me. He also sang his own song, Love is in Need of Love Today. He always leaves me speechless.

Camila Cabello & Shawn Mendes

In a dim lit room in front of the piano, the duo sang What a Wonderful World. Though it was a modern take on the song, the original message was heard loud and clear.

Lizzo

Lizzo took us to church when she sang A Change is Gonna Come. Her expression and the incredible notes she was hitting really made us feel hopeful for change right along with her.

John Legend & Sam Smith

These two powerful voices sang Stand by Me together. It was the duet we never knew we needed but are so thankful we got to experience.

Throughout the special, they paid tribute to essential and frontline workers across the country that deserve our highest thanks and help in any way we can. They also raised awareness to groups of people that need us the most right now.

There are so many ways to help that don’t even require spending money. Please take the time to visit globalcitizen.org to find out what you can do to help.
