With gyms and fitness centers closed, many are struggling to keep the “Quarantine 15” away. This may be even more challenging for those who were making great progress in their healthy lifestyle before the pandemic. However, no need to get discouraged, Marvel movie star, Kumail Nanjiani, shares how he is able to keep the weight off during this pandemic.


We all have noticed the complete body transformation of Kumail Nanjiani in the past year while preparing for his role in the upcoming Marvel movie, The Eternals. Many fans were shocked when he revealed his new ripped body via Instagram.

I never thought I’d be one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless, but I’ve worked way too hard for way too long so here we are. You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I found out a year ago I was going to be in Marvel’s Eternals and decided I wanted to transform how I looked. I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time. So big thanks to @grantrobertsfit who started working with me at the beginning of the year and made me understand true physical pain for months and months. Then, once we started shooting, a massive thanks to @davidhigginslondon and his team (@ellispartridge, @thebeardypt, @tomcheesemanfitness) for training me almost every day and making me strong, limber and injury free. I can almost touch my toes now. (And thank you for forcing me to do cheat meals David.) Matthews Street Catering for their delicious and healthy meals. And finally, the biggest thanks goes to @emilyvgordon for putting up with me complaining and talking about only working out and dieting for the last year. Many people were wondering if the action hero has been able to maintain his physique while in Quarantine. During an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Nanjiani shared, “I sort of saw the quarantine coming early so I just bought a bench and some weights. So I’ve been working out as if it’s the only thing tethering me to sanity.”

Not only has working out helped maintain his shredded body, Nanjiani pointed out it’s helped with his anxiety and stress during Quarantine.

The Silicon Valley actor also shared that intermittent fasting helped transform his body. “I would do an 18/6 fast day,” Nanjiani explained. “So I won’t eat for eighteen hours, and then I’ll compress everything into six hours of the day. If I’m doing that, then I don’t eat breakfast.” While incorporating different types of fruit, such as apples, pears or peaches in his meal everyday, Nanjiani’s breakfast usually consisted of eggs and gluten-free toast. Sugar snap peas are his favorite snack. 

Along with drinking beet juice as a pre-workout for extra energy, The Big Sick actor shared his protein shake secret: “I think there has to be a little bit of fruit in it, or almond butter or peanut butter.” Nanjiani also enjoys eating Chicken Breasts with either Indian or his native Pakistani spices. 

Not only is The Lovebirds star using his new healthy lifestyle for personal gain, he also supported Ellen Degeneres’ #PlankThatSong challenge, where she challenges celebrities to hold a plank while singing to raise money for charities. Nanjiani successfully completed the challenge, raising $10,000 for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. 

Many have been wondering what has been keeping the actor motivated, especially during this pandemic. Nanjiani shared, “Since I’ve been working out, it’s the calmest I’ve been. I’ve been sleeping better, I feel less anxious, I have way more energy. The motivation is just health—I just feel healthier than I have in twenty years.”

Since we are all striving to maintain our health -mentally and physically- many are excited to have someone relatable to assist with their health and fitness journey. 

The Eternals is set to be released February 2021.
