The power of Jennifer Aniston is real after she joined instagram, and literally broke the social media platform, while also breaking a world record.
This all happened Tuesday when the actress posted an epic selfie of herself and her Friends co-stars with a caption that said, “and now we’re instagram FRIENDS too. Hi INSTAGRAM.”
Shortly after her iconic post, Aniston’s page crashed, sending fans into a frenzy.
All the commotion even caught the attention of Instagram. A spokesperson for the social media platform told People, “We are aware that some people are having issues following Jen’s page — the volume of interest is incredible!”
Not long after all the craziness the page was back up and running, and her follower count continued to go through the roof. As of Wednesday afternoon, Aniston already has over nine million followers and counting.
Not only did Aniston break Instagram, but she also broke a Guinness World Record. The organization posted on its website that the actress reached one million followers in just 5 hours and 16 minutes, which is the fastest time do so. The previous holders were Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, whose joint account @sussexroyal gained one million followers in 5 hours and 45 minutes.
Aniston revealed some information behind the famous photo on The Howard Stern Show. Aniston and the entire Friends cast got together for dinner at Courtney Cox’s house in early October. David Schwimmer was in town, and it worked out to reunite.
“We all happened to have a window of time so we all got together,” said Aniston.
Aniston said the gathering was a dream, and they reminisced about their time together on the show.
“We laughed so hard,” said Aniston. “We all miss it every day.”
As for who Aniston is following on Instagram, she has a pretty impressive list of 114 people ranging from Mellisa McCarthy, Selena Gomez, Michelle Obama, and even her ex-husband Justin Theroux.
