Could Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette be cancelled?

That’s the question on all of Bachelor Nation’s minds after Matt James was announced Friday as the next Bachelor. James was set to be a suitor on Crawley’s season, but when production was paused in March due to Covid-19, ABC decided to give James a bigger role as the Bachelor.

Typically, the incoming show lead is chosen from the currently airing season of the show so that fan interest can be gauged, and the announcement is made during the “After The Final Rose” live show. The early announcement of James as the Bachelor had some fans speculating Crawley’s season is cancelled.

However, host Chris Harrison took to his Instagram comments to dispel any rumors

“Of course not!” he replied to one fan as to whether The Bachelorette is cancelled. “Clare’s love story is next.”

Rob Mills, ABC’s top executive of unscripted television who oversees the franchise, told Variety he thinks this order of business is actually great news for Crawley.

“Every guy who will be on her season will know there is no chance of becoming The Bachelor, so they should really all be there only for Clare.”

Current plans for production estimate that Crawley’s season will begin airing in the fall and James’ season in January 2021.
