Halle Bailey is heading to the sea as Ariel!
Bailey shared the news of getting the role in the new The Little Mermaid movie on Twitter adding, “dream come true”.
The 19-year-old star is known for her role on Freeform’s grown-ish, and Chloe x Halle R&B group, which she started with her sister in 2015.
The new Little Mermaid film will be directed and produced by Rob Marshall, who has also worked on Mary Poppins.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Though an ‘extensive search’ was underway to find an actress to
take on the coveted role of the Disney princess, director Rob Marshall says that apart from Bailey having
a ‘glorious singing voice’ she also ‘possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and
substance’ that are the ‘intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.'”
Many celebrities have congratulated the star including actress and singer Zendeya, who was speculated to
be in the run for the role. But we can say now that she is happy for Bailey as she commented on twitter
saying “Yeeeeessss!! Here for Thiiiissss!!” Halle Berry also congratulated the star adding, “In case you
needed a reminder… Halles get it DONE. Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we
can’t wait to see what you do!”
The Little Mermaid is scheduled to begin production in 2020.
