Disney Channel star Cameron Boyce passed away Saturday at the age of 20. The death was confirmed to ABC News by Boyce’s family.
Boyce was best known for starring in in Disney’s Descendants. He also played Adam Sandler’s son in Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2.
A spokesperson for Boyce’s family said the death was caused by a seizure in his sleep, as a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was receiving treatment.
“The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him.”
In addition to acting, Boyce used his platform to help others around the world, including raising $30,000 for Thirst Project, a nonprofit organization which provides clean drinking water to those without access.
Boyce first gained prominence on Disney’s Jesse in 2011, starring as Luke Ross in 98 episodes of the series over four years.
Disney shared their condolences via ABC News Saturday night.
“From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples’ lives through his humanitarian work,” said a Disney Channel spokesperson. “He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, cast mates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed.”
Boyce posted the picture above to his Instagram Friday, his last photo. Fans are using the photo to write their condolences.
Shai Jackson, who starred opposite Boyce in Jessie, wrote, “I love you. Forever in my heart.”
Boyce was set to star in HBO’s Mrs. Fletcher TV series. There has yet to be an announcement as to what will happen with his character.
