The 2010’s have ushered in a welcome rise in board game culture, and with nerd-dom suddenly becoming cool, games like Dungeons and Dragons and Risk are suddenly all the rage again.
But one that has catapulted in popularity of the last decade is Klaus Tubers’ brilliant trading and building game: The Settlers of Catan, a game following a group of warring empires settling an uninhabited island using precious resources. Obviously, tons of people globally have come to love Catan, but did you know these celebrities also love the brilliant board game?
Woody Harrelson is well known for his roles as Woody Boyd in Cheers and Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games Franchise, but what about his role as largest army holder in Catan? That’s right, Woody Harrleson is a die hard Ca-Stan. Apparently, he takes Catan to all of his shoots so he can play between shot set-ups, and some diehards speculate the resource management of the game aligns with his veganism.

Speaking of The Hunger Games, Elizabeth Banks outed herself as Catan-obsessee when she worked with Woody on the set. Harrelson and Bank’s characters both played mentor figures to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen, and now we only hope the two of them can mentor her into how to best take advantage of the building phase!
DAX SHEPARD & KRISTEN BELL
If Webster’s Dictionary were to attach a photo for “Couple Goals,” it would be a photo of Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, Hollywood’s favorite couple, amirite? They’re an adorably competitive couple known for game nights, and Settlers of Catan has always been their favorite. This Instagram post is them playing Catan in lieu of Golden Globes after-parties. We see you K-Bell and D-Shep. Oh, and shout out to AfterBuzzer AJ Gibson who got THIS video of the two of them fanning!

Props to Mila Kunis who has been a Ca-Stan for over a DECADE. In a 2008 cover shoot interview for CosmoGIRL, Kunis admitted that Settlers of Catan is in her top five favorite games, among World of Warcraft and Mario Party…as if she WASN’T already every 12 year old boy’s fantasy…
The Globe and Mail reported in 2007 that Oh loves playing Catan with fellow Canadian Actors like Nathan Fillion. According to Oh, “We brutalize each other, It’s no holds barred.” I’m sure that Robber has gotten thrown across the room once or twice!
It’s quite a “Year of Plenty” when it comes to Catan-obsessed celebs! Anyone we missed? Let us know in the comments below!
