ABTV Quarantine with the Stars

It isn’t news that a wide range of celebrities like actress Amy Schumer, pop band The Jonas brothers, and motivational speaker Gary Vaynerchuk, have given out their phone numbers through social media.

Engaging with fans through a more intimate outlet has been taking place since late 2018. Numerous celebrities have since followed this trend and are continuing to utilize it.

However, due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it seems that public figures are willing to bridge the gap between them and fans more than ever.

Quarantine has taken celebs to social platforms such as IG Live, Twitter, and text message at an enormous rate. From promoting different charities, to sending positive vibes, to allowing fans into their homes through stay at home parties, it is a cultural phenomenon that hasn’t been experienced before.

Posting a note on Instagram that emphasizes the importance of technology, especially during isolation, is how pop singer Britney Spears expressed how she feels during this time.

“During this time of isolation, we need connection now more than ever…” said the note. Spears went on to caption the post with “Communication goes beyond walls.”

Celebrities not being able to produce content due to the stay at home order has given them time to stay connected frequently and should be expected for the foreseeable future.  The Ranch star Ashton Kutcher explained it best on Twitter when first posting his number for fans to contact him

Text messaging fans is just easier Ashton, and a great example of how much celeb culture is changing and continues to progress as time goes on.

Many live streamed at home concerts. Positive tweets and text messages have continued to go out. It can be said that experiencing something this tragic globally and together, can mold the way celebrities and fans interact forever.
