Not only is June the beginning of Summer, it’s also Beautiful in Your Skin month. Since feeling beautiful is more of a reflection of the mind than the mirror, ABTV’s Mount Rushmore’s Beautiful in Your Skin highlights different celebs who have redefined the standards of beauty in their own right.

Canadian fashion model, Winnie Harlow, born Chantelle Whitney Brown-Young, is a public spokesperson for vitiligo. In 2014, the 26 year old model gained prominence as a contestant on the twenty-first cycle of America’s Next Top Model after being discovered by Tyra Banks on Instagram. Although Winnie has vitiligo, a condition that causes the skin to lose pigmentation, she’s made it clear that she is not letting it stop her from shining. Continuing to break barriers, Winnie became the first model with vitiligo to walk in Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. In an interview with Good Morning America, Winnie exclaimed, “It blows my mind. I can’t even believe it…I’m a trailblazer.”

American rapper and actor hailing from Los Angeles, California, Jones is a member of the group Strong Arm Steady. He is also well-known for his portrayal of the character Tobias Whale in The CW superhero television series Black Lightning, which was inspired by the DC Comics series. Albinism is when a person has a congenital disorder that causes either a partial or a total lack of pigment in their eyes, their hair, and their skin. This was one of the reasons he was chosen to play Tobias Whale, who is a character with the same congenital disorder. Throughout his career he has written for artists including Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Xzibit

American actor and film narrator, Morgan Freeman, is recognizable from the many blockbuster movies he’s starred in over his distinguished career. The veteran actor also has dermatosis papulosa nigra, a skin condition that creates dark raised areas, most often in those with African descent. From numerous memorable performances on stage, screen, and television, Freeman’s emotional depth, subtle humour, and versatility made him one of the most-respected performers of his generation.

Because skin is often the first thing people look at, it can affect our self-esteem and confidence levels. So as ABTV honors “Beautiful in Your Skin” month, always remember that true beauty comes from a confidence that can only be found within.
