ABTV Celebs Fighting Coronavirus Bollywood Edition : I for India

During this challenging time, we must remember the positive forces doing their best to combat this crisis. AfterBuzz TV’s ‘Celebs Fighting Coronavirus’ series highlights those celebrities who are answering the call to action.

The type of energy we all need right now.

In response to the Covid19 crisis, Bollywood decided to come together on Sunday May 3rd, in collaboration with Facebook, to throw a virtual concert called “I for India”. The purpose of the concert was to raise funds for those on the front lines trying to contain and resolve the pandemic.

All of the biggest stars in Bollywood came together and participated in this event to show their support during these hectic times.

The lineup was introduced by filmmakers Karan Johar and Zoya Akhtar, starting with Akshay Kumar, who chose to recite a poem.

Some of the Bollywood stars included in the concert were Shah Rukh Khan. Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Madhuri Dixit, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Abhishek Bachchan, to name just a few. There were even some Hollywood stars, such as Will Smith and Nick Jonas!

Shah Rukh Khan decided to entertain his audience by singing a song, and included some fun footage dancing with his youngest son AbRam. Aamir Khan also sang a song, and Hrithik Roshan played the piano.

Bollywood movies are almost always filled with music. However, the songs are usually sung by playback singers. The actors simply lip sync and dance. Therefore, watching these Bollywood stars actually sing their own songs, was very entertaining and not something India is used to seeing.

The overall donations came to over Rs. 52 crore, about $6.9 million, all of which will go to GiveIndia’s “India COVID Response Fund”, supporting on-ground relief.

Karan Johar thanked the masses via twitter, with a tweet reading,

“From our hearts to yours. Thank you for watching. Thank you for responding. Thank you for donating. #IForIndia started out as a concert. But it can be a movement. Let’s continue to build a safe, healthy & strong India. I For India. Please donate.”

It is heartwarming to see Bollywood joining hands and working together towards resolving the current crisis, and supporting the frontlines. And to all of you out there, please continue to be safe.
