Founded by Emmy winning journalist Maria Menounos and Producer Keven Undergaro, AfterBuzz TV is the artist-friendly entertainment news platform that celebrates, discusses, interviews, promotes and reports on the widest range of stars, creators and content through video, audio and article publications.

On this prideful edition of #GayTwitter, the panel was joined by Black Trans Supermodel Arisce Wanzer to share her experience with Black Lives Matter and help bring more attention to trans representation. When opening up about trans lives often being left out of the conversation during this important movement, Arisce had this to say:

“I think Black Lives Matter needs to be much more inclusive. I went to one protest last week and they went down a list of some fifty-five names, and not one of them was a trans woman and not one of them was Tony McDade. I was like, well am I even at this protest because I don’t feel like it anymore. I feel like I was not seen and it’s not about me, it’s about the fact that that was an injustice too. It’s still unarmed black innocent people, but because they’re trans, we don’t count. That’s a goddamn shame. And so, I would just like Black Lives Matter to just acknowledge a little more.”

With many non POCs having difficulty on how they can be a good ally for BLM, Arisce also gave some great advice on demonstrating positive allyship.

“What makes a good ally is asking in the first place and if you have a friend of color that you can asks these things to, you’ve already done a little bit of the work by knowing someone of color, because if you don’t have anyone you can directly ask and feel comfortable asking these hard questions about, you might be part of the problem.”

As the show came to a close, Afterbuzz host, Jayla Roxx also joined the panel to shed light on she and Arisce’s upcoming project, GAY-ish Season 2. With the issue of trans content not always being accessible to mainstream audiences, Arisce ended the show with some encouraging advice to help promote trans and queer related content.

“It’s all really going to come with our allies, because how many people will you see go and buy a Beyonce album the night it comes out, but they won’t buy your merch and you’re their starving artist friend. We’ve got to start supporting our friends so you got to share your friend’s stuff, even if it’s just a link. It took you no effort. It costs you nothing to be kind, it costs you nothing to be a good friend. Use your platform to lift your friends up.”
