AfterBuzz TV has officially launched the world’s first channel specifically for aftershows in Spanish.
AfterBuzz Latino debuted Tuesday with the premieres of Los Espookys aftershow and WWE Raw Español. The hosts of all shows will be speaking primarily, or entirely, in Spanish.
Los Espookys is a comedy television series, starring Fred Armisen, that “follows a group of friends who turn their love for horror into a peculiar business, providing horror to those who need it, in a dreamy Latin American country where the strange and eerie are just part of daily life.” Season one launched on HBO in June, and it has already been picked up for a second season after high ratings.
The YouTube Audience in Latin America has been growing rapidly in recent years, and the audience accounts for 17% of YouTube’s global audience and 27% of all streaming video users, according to Music Industry Blog. The popular Latin song, Despacito ft. Daddy Yankee, by Luis Fonsi, has been viewed a record 6.3 billion times on YouTube.
The Latino population in the United States hit a record 58 million people in 2016, and Hispanic-Americans are the largest minority in the U.S., compromising around 18% of the population. Still, there is a major lack of programming catered to Spanish speakers. AfterBuzz TV recognized this and is seeking to provide people with an option to enjoy entertainment in Español.
With Los Espookys and WWE Raw Español already started, AfterBuzz also has a number of other programs planned, including an aftershow on El Secreto de Selena, which launches in the United States on August 25th on Telemundo. El Secreto de Selena covers the life of singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the top-selling Latino artist of the 1990’s.
AfterBuzz TV is very excited to be able to offer this diverse content and provide Spanish speakers with specific content catered around them.
