AFTERBUZZ TV REMEMBERS SELINA QUINTANILLA

April 16, is Selena Day! We celebrate an Icon who broke barriers and paved the way for so many artists and entertainers today. Today we celebrate you, Selena.  Happy Birthday!

It’s no secret Selena Quintanilla was crowned the Queen of Tejano Music. Even after 25 years of her passing, her music lives on with us. The life and legacy of Selena Quintanilla will live for generations to come.

For as long as I can remember, I listened to Selena Quintanilla. The late Tejano singer’s music was always playing in my house. There was no day my family and I would not listen to her music and gather around and dance to it.

Selena was not only an inspiration as an entertainer but as a person that worked hard from the very bottom to get to the very top,  but she was always giving back to the community and always staying humble. Watching many interviews over the years and being one of her biggest fans, you could not help but fall in love with her captivating smile and personality.

Selena was at the peak of her career when she passed away. She had a massive following in the Tejano and Cumbia genres. At that time of her career, she was working on a crossover album that was going to change her brand forever by releasing English-language songs. It has been 25 years since her passing, and Selena continues to be the best-selling female artist in music history. With some of her biggest hits, “Como La Flor”, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”, and my ultimate favorite “Si Una Vez”!

Selena’s music career began at the age of 6 years old when Abraham Quintanilla Sr. discovered his daughter’s musical talent. He then started a family band Selena y Los Dinos. The rest is history. She went on to become a fashion icon, Grammy Winner, and one of the greatest selling artists of her time.

Quintanilla worked hard from humble beginnings that is why she remained so grounded and why her story has such resonance. With her style and her melodies, she has inspired many of our favorite artists to this day, but she will always hold the crown of the Queen of Tex-Mex!
