AFTERBUZZ IMAGINES ZOEY’S QUARANTINE PLAYLIST

For some, Quarantine has brought out the worst.  For others, quarantine has brought out the best. For a few, talent brings out imagination. On that note, AfterbuzzTV launches a new series where we “IMAGINE” how our favorite fictional characters would fare in quarantine.  We present AfterBuzz TV Imagines _______In Quarantine. This week Afterbuzz Imagines Zoey’s Playlist in Quarantine.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is the ultimate musical dramedy on NBC that is tugging at our heartstrings and capturing beloved fans with their epic musical numbers, powerful and creative storylines, and innovative choreography.

I’m fully invested in the characters of Zoey’s Playlist since we cover it every week at AfterBuzz TV Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Aftershow, so I had a thought – what inner musical monologues would these characters sing if they were stuck inside? The emotional roller coaster of the season so far gives me a few moments to think about as these characters sing their hearts out…internally, of course.

First of all, we have to start off with Zoey!

Zoey – Played by Jane Levy

“I’ll Be Your Shelter” by Taylor Dayne

This classic 80’s song with an uplifting beat and happy lyrics is the perfect best friend song to showcase Zoey’s power to help others. She not only supports her fellow neighbors, friends and family (from afar) but will “be their shelter”, emotionally or mentally, for whatever they might need and will help get them through it. Zoey has that habit of getting involved and helping others, who will she help next?

Max – Played by Skylar Astin

“Make You Feel My Love” Bob Dylan

Team Max all the way! The need to show Zoey his love and friendship has been strong all season. Max continues to sing his heart out and will eventually make her feel his love. This classic Bob Dylan song, made famous by Billy Joel and Adele tugs at the heart strings and would bring anyone to tears if Max sings it. Again, Team Max!

Simon & Jessica – Played by John Clarence Stewart & India de Beaufort

“What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” by Jimmy Ruffin

With the emotional roller coaster of Team Simon and Zoey’s role in complicating the relationship, this is the perfect duet between Simon and Jessica. As they figure out the next step in their relationship, this artsy and lyrically beautiful song would be a gentle reminder of the internal struggle Simon is having and how he and Jessica are aching to not hurt each other anymore.

Mo – Played by Alex Newell

“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor

Mo’s inner musical monologue game is strong! This 1978 disco hit is one of the most iconic anthem songs of all time, with some of the best lyrics that focus on empowerment and surviving the most difficult situations. Mo’s incredible vocal tone, zest for life, struggles for acceptance, and her commitment to friends and family would be demonstrated through this song. And I think Mandy Moore, the choreographer for Zoey’s Playlist, would have fun with it as well.

Maggie – Played by Mary Steenburgen

“Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler

Maggie is going through the biggest struggle and journey of her life where she will eventually have to say goodbye to her husband. This song I feel is rich with emotional depth and can showcase her deep love for her soulmate. And, well, you can’t go wrong with a Bette Midler song.

Mitch – Played by Peter Gallagher

“I’ll Be There” by the Jackson 5

I love when Mitch has his musical numbers in Zoey’s Playlist. A fun song I believe he would sing is “I’ll Be There” by the Jackson 5, covered by Mariah Carey and various artists. This song shows that Mitch will always be there for his friends and family no matter what happens down the road, and if you just say his name, he’ll be there. It’s uplifting and sentimental all at the same time.

Joan – Played by Lauren Graham

“Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

As one of the coolest and most intense bosses out there, Joan has one of the worst reputations. Even though she’s been friendly with Zoey in the past and has some killer dance moves, I think there’s still a bad side to her, especially with the new romance blossoming with Leif. Her no-care attitude and dynamic presence would rock out to this song!

Leif – Played by Michael Thomas Grant

“For Your Entertainment” by Adam Lambert

With Leif causing some trouble between himself and his best friend, Tobin, as well as stirring up some romantic intentions towards Joan, this pop-rock song would be the most epic song for Leif to sing while stuck at home. Perhaps this is the song that reveals his true intentions? With Leif’s vocal range, personality and bursting energy on previous musical numbers, this would be so much fun!

Tobin – Played by Kapil Talwalkar

“Count on Me” – Bruno Mars

I love Tobin’s dedication to his friends (Leif!) and work. He really has helped Zoey get through some tough times. In previous episodes, he’s shown that he has a deeper emotional side to him than what’s perceived on the outside. This song represents how even in the darkness, Tobin will be there for you and be the light to guide you with his smile, his jokes, and his wild dance moves.

Emily & David – Played by Alice Lee & Andrew Leeds

“Lullaby” by The Dixie Chicks

Some of the most powerful lyrics from this Dixie Chicks song include, never knew the best was yet to come, Life began when I saw your face, and I hear your laugh like a serenade, how long do you wanna be loved is forever enough, is forever enough, how long do you wanna be loved, Is forever enough, ’cause I’m never, never giving you up.” This would be the perfect duet for them to sing to their new bundle of joy on the way!
