Adam Sandler and Lebron James will join forces on Netflix’s court in the near future as the actor is set to star in the newest movie while James will be a producer.

According to Collider, the story follows an American basketball scout – played by Sandler – who is wrongfully fired after the discovery of a once-in-a-lifetime talent overseas. The movie will be a story based on dream realization and proving the doubters wrong as the scout brings the player to America to have his shot at the NBA.

In addition to James, Maverick Carter will also produce under their Springhill Entertainment banner. Sandler’s Happy Madison will have involvement, as well as, Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Zack Roth of Roth/Kirschenbaum Films.

The movie will be directed by indie drama We the Animals Jeremiah Zager.

An interesting twist to the news is the description of the player as coming from “abroad” with no specification of country.

The original script was written by Taylor Materne who designated the player as a “chinese streetball phenom”, according to Collider.

However, implications could force their way in as the NBA and Chinese relations are going through turbulent waters. Last October, China refused to air NBA games after comments made my Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey. It is unclear whether this storyline would manifest itself in China, especially with the current status of the world, but Lebron James definitely did his part to protect his interests in this project.

James spoke out against the comments saying, “I just think that when you’re misinformed or you’re not educated about something — you never know the ramifications that can happen.”

Meanwhile, Sandler is coming off box office success from his performance in Uncut Gems

So how did these two link up to be in the movie business together? Well, Sandler is a massive basketball fan (although his allegiance lies with the Knicks, not the Lakers), plus there are mutual connections between the two.

Insert Judd Apatow who was Sandler’s college roommate, but also directed James for his role in the movie Trainwreck

One thing’s for certain, there’s not a time-table available for when viewers can tune-in, or even when production will begin especially due to COVID-19 placing the majority of movies/shows on hold.
