ABTV Quarantine With The Stars: Katherine Castro

Katherine Castro is the perfect example of a strong, empowering woman, who pushes through adversity and represents her Latinx heritage with pride. After leaving the emerging film and TV industry in the Dominican Republic, Katherine made the leap to Hollywood and has been taking on many exciting endeavors ever since. She started a podcast with her friend Angela called Talk Fast, Listen Slow, and she does wonders for Latina women and women everywhere through her partnerships with BeLatinaNews and Bloomi.

These days in quarantine, Katherine has been focusing on her health and wellness as she is currently in remission from Hashimoto’s disease, and is doing everything that she can to push forward and bring more visibility to herself and the Latinx community.

On the topic of her remission, Katherine shared that she is so grateful to live the balanced, healthy lifestyle she now does after receiving her diagnosis for Hashimoto’s disease. Since then, Katherine has been incorporating more fitness into her life like jumping on her trampoline, jumping rope, and even doing outdoor pilates for some Vitamin D.

Katherine has been doing these exercises now more than ever during quarantine and in addition to focusing on her fitness, she’s also focusing on her career as she’s been able to make more episodes of her fun podcast Talk Fast, Listen Slow, and she’s also connecting with friends for some Zoom Salsa Dancing!

With the good news of Katherine’s remission, we also discussed her new video series Somos Good News, which is inspired by John Krasinski’s Some Good News. Katherine shared that she is a huge fan of John Krasinski and she loved the positive message he was spreading with this show, so when BeLatinaNews approached her to craft a Latinx version, she knew it was a perfect fit.

“First of all, who doesn’t love John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. He’s so lovable, and she is just amazing. We thought that was something really different and positive that someone was doing just because. And we thought well, why not do the same but something that highlights the Latin community.”

Highlighting the Latin community during these trying times is also something that Katherine is passionate about, as she mentioned how many first responders are of the Latin community, and their hard work and dedication needs to be celebrated.

Another thing that needs to be celebrated is the amount of visibility that the Latinx community is receiving in Hollywood, but Katherine agrees that there are still steps that we can take for more representation.

“Telling stories that are made by us, and from us. Telling stories that resonate with us, bringing that to the forefront. The more we talk about it, the more we make it mainstream.”

When she’s not podcasting or sharing Somos Good News, Katherine can also be seen bringing awareness to sexual health and wellness through her partnership with Bloomi.

Bloomi focuses on women’s health in many aspects and works diligently to break the stigma of sexual health for women through their intimate care products. Once Katherine met the Latina owner of this startup, she knew that she had to be a part of it and help bring awareness to this cause.
