Melissa Benoist first caught our attention as the mousy but incredibly talented Marley Rose on Fox’s hit series Glee. But she cemented her place as one of television’s leading ladies playing the titular character on the CW’s Supergirl. Melissa and her husband, fellow CW star Chris Wood, recently announced they are expecting their first child together. As their family grows by one let’s check out what other famous familial connections Melissa has.

The “Like a Virgin” pop superstar is 8th cousins with Melissa Benoist through their shared direct ancestors Julien and Genevieve Fortin-Bellefontaine. I bet Madonna could share some great tips on how to have longevity in the entertainment industry.

Celine Dion

This vocal powerhouse is 9th cousins once removed to Melissa through their shared ancestors Louis and Louise Gagne-Bellevance. If being related to these two divas is any indication, Melissa Benoist is a diva on the rise.

Justin Trudeau

The 23rd Prime Minister of Canada is 9th cousins twice removed of Melissa Benoist through their shared ancestors Pierre Gagne and Marguerite Rosee. Interestingly enough Pierre and Marguerite are the parents of Louis Gagne, the shared ancestor of Melissa and Celine Dion. Even more interesting is that Pierre and Marguerite are also the shared ancestors of one Hillary Rodham Clinton. I bet they would be quite proud of their descendants’ accomplishments.

Chris shot to movie stardom when he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Starlord leading the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. He is 9th cousins twice removed with Melissa through their shared ancestors Julien Mercier and Marie Poulin. Look at genealogy bringing Marvel and DC together. I guess playing superheroes on TV and in movies must run in the family.

Jim Carrey

Another superhero in the family. This incredibly accomplished actor has played an on screen hero in The Mask as well as a villian (The Riddler) in DC’s Batman Forever. In addition to their heroic and comic book connections, Jim and Melissa are 9th cousins twice removed through their ancestors Etienne Lessard and Marguerite Sevestre. I for one would love to see Benoist’s Supergirl go up against Carrey’s Riddler but just in a friendly family tussle.
