The long awaited series is finally coming to Netflix on December 4, 2020.
Netflix released the full length trailer a couple of days ago and we could not be more excited!
Christian Serratos will star as the Queen of Tejano music herself Selena Quintanilla in the biopic detailing her life.
Notable actors appearing on the show are: Julio Macias, who plays Spooky in On My Block, Ricardo Antonio Chavira, known for Desperate Housewives, and Seidy Lopez, who was part of the Selena movie starring Jennifer Lopez.
There’s a lot of reasons to watch this series so follow me while we go down the list.
#3 A New Perspective
It’s no secret that the Quintanilla family has been heavily involved in the project which makes it an even bigger reason to watch.
What better way to know Selena’s story than through the eyes of her family.
The series is meant to detail Selena’s story from beginning all the way to her rise into stardom.
Fans will be able to see Selena’s childhood, her relationships with her family members, and go deeper than the movie ever did.
The Selena movie with Jennifer Lopez came out in 1997 and while the movie itself is iconic, it’s good to get a refresh.
It’s also a good opportunity for people who don’t know who Selena is to get to know her.
The whole point of the series is to introduce Selena in a way that we haven’t seen her before.
While people were hesitant towards the series when the first sneak peek got released in 2019, it’s important to realize that this series is made for fans.
Fans are what keeps Selena’s legacy alive. Everytime we talk about her, everytime we sing her songs, she’s present.
Plus, for fans, like myself, it should be exciting to see more of Selena’s life on a personal level, something we didn’t get to see much of in the original movie.
#1 It’s Selena DUH!
Selena is an icon. A legend. A person who changed so many peoples’ lives and continues to do so.
She brought Tejano music to a mainstream level and proved that she was able to be successful in a male dominated genre.
She showed people who didn’t know Spanish but were Latinx that it was okay. ICYMI, Selena didn’t speak Spanish growing up, she learned it after she started her singing career. But she showed people like her that not knowing the language does not make you any less Latinx.
Selena did so much for the community as a whole. When someone speaks of Latin American music, you best believe her name will be there.
While Selena might not be here anymore, her music and her impact remain. She will never be forgotten and her memory will be kept alive in the years to come.
