You can hear Ian Verdun calling out to you on Freeform’s Siren, and he sat down with me to chat about the show and how Freeform is at the forefront of LGBT representation and visibility.

I started by asking Ian about his experience attending Los Angeles Pride on behalf of Freeform, and he mentioned that it was a dream come true for him. He also had this to say about that experience and his experience as an out-and-proud member of the LGBTQ community.

“My personal experience has been one of general love and acceptance”, he shared. “As for Pride, it was kind of one thing that I’ve always wanted to do and I’ve always wanted to, like, kind of be a part of the parade”, he said.

He also emphasized how important it was that he was supported by Freeform, who he says has been championing LGBT representation and acceptance.

“To have the network really kind of lean in to that narrative, and to lean in to, pushing–like I said before–the idea of normalization, the idea that we all belong, and the idea that, again, it doesn’t have to be this huge struggle struggle. We can lead with love, and we can lead with just visibility.”

Ian also shared a funny story about his big boss, Mickey Mouse (Disney is the parent company of Freeform) and his role in the Pride Parade as well. “They played a Mickey Mouse song on the float we were on the entire parade”, he said. He also performed an iconic rendition of the Mickey Mouse Club March and shared that his nickname in college was actually Mickey, which could not be more perfect.

If you want to call out to Ian yourself, you can find him on Instagram @ianverdun and you can quite literally CATCH him on Freeform’s Siren when the show returns for Season 3 on April 2nd.
