Why You Should Spend Your Sunday Nights Watching Duncanville

Listen, I’m not one to tell people what to do with their time (yeah, right), but you are truly missing out if you’re not watching the new FOX animated series Duncanville and I’m about to tell you why.

Duncanville follows an average 15-year-old boy named Duncan (Amy Poehler) along with his family and friends. The characters are written in a way that you can find a bit of yourself in each of them.

In the first episode we get to re-experience what it’s like to unexpectedly come face to face with your first big crush. I’m not talking about animated hearts flying around your head. I’m talking about when Duncan sees his crush Mia (Rashida Jones), his entire body betrays him and he creates a mortifying memory that will last forever. That’s real life.

The voice cast is led by Amy Poehler, who plays both Duncan and his mom Annie, and Ty Burrell, who plays the dad, Jack. Alongside them, is an ensemble of amazing comedic talent that are holding down a lot of the laugh out loud moments in the show. If they don’t make you want to tune in, I don’t know what will.

Yangzi, played by Yassir Lester (Black Monday, Making History), is Duncan’s flyest friend with style for days. He’s a social media influencer that’s always down for a good deal and a glow up. He’s the type that you quickly become jealous of because you assume he has it all figured out.

Bex, played by Betsy Sodaro (Disjointed), is the class clown of the group and is often seen as one of the bros. She has a tendency to go too far for a laugh, but also has a soft side, as many clowns do. She inadvertently exposes parts of her personal life while being the supportive confidant that everyone wants around.

Kimberly, played by Riki Lindhome (Another Period), is Duncan’s angsty 12-year-old sister. She relies on her abundance of emotions to guide her through life. If you’ve wronged her in any way, you can bet that she’ll never forget it.

Jing, played by Joy Osmanski (Santa Clarita Diet), is Duncan’s wise and adorable 6-year-old sister. She’s able to show empathy to every member of her family while being the voice of reason. Her innocent one-liners and matter of fact opinions are guaranteed to make your face light up.

Mia, played by Rashida Jones (Angie Tribeca, Parks and Recreation), is Duncan’s crush. She’s the coolest girl in the room and always down for the cause. She’s who you see yourself as when you daydream about winning an argument.

Wolf, played by Zach Cherry, is Duncan’s neighbor and friend. He lives a bit on the wild side and is generally disinterested in most things. He’s all of us when we’re exhausted and just don’t have time to overthink.

Mr. Mitch, played by Wiz Khalifa, is everyone’s favorite teacher. He’s so cool that he rolls everywhere on a hoverboard. Enough said.

We can all see ourselves on the screen in this show, if not physically, in the hearts of the characters. Don’t just take my word for it, watch it for yourselves. You can catch Duncanville on Sundays at 8:30PM/7:30PM CT on FOX.
