In the past year, Kel Mitchell has helped reboot Nickelodeon’s All That as an executive producer, proved his dancing chops as a finalist on Dancing With The Stars, and as if that wasn’t enough for the actor/comedian/musician (and then some), he’s adding another title to the mix: youth pastor.

Mitchell is now a licensed pastor at his church in Los Angeles, Spirit Food Christian Center. He took to social media to make the announcement.

“Blessed and thankful for my Spirit Food Family and thank you Pastor Ziegler for seeing the calling of God on my life and trusting me with your Youth Department,” he wrote on Instagram.

Growing up in Chicago as the grandson of a pastor, Mitchell’s faith has played an integral role in his life. During his Dancing With The Stars stint, he took partner Witney Carson to church with him, and told Access Hollywood that they prayed together before every performance.

Mitchell’s new status as a pastor paints a contrasting image to his old life. In a 2015 interview with People Magazine, he confessed that his faith is what got him through a dark time of substance abuse and suicidal thoughts during that fallout of Kenan & Kel’s cancellation and his divorce.

“I was trying to figure it all out on my own. But what I needed to do was turn to Him,” he said. “I don’t let things frustrate or worry me anymore. I don’t do that because I have peace in my heart. I have God.”

As Mitchell’s life comes full circle with the revival of his career-making show All That, his faith that led him here is once again at center stage.
