Screen Shot 2017-04-22 at 6.34.05 PM

By: Dakota T. Jones

Want to learn how to break into the directing scene? It definitely isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. On Friday April 21st, director Joshua Butler made an appearance on the new show “Millennial Hollywood with Dakota T. Jones” for Afterbuzz TV’s Popcorn Talk Network.

During the interview, Joshua opens up about his success while discussing his involvement in shows such as The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, The Magicians, & Shadowhunters. When Dakota asked Joshua the biggest piece of advice he had for actors, his response was, “Learn your lines, show up on time & be nice to everyone from the executives to the craft service workers who make your lunch.” Simple, right?

When asked what his biggest piece of advice was for millennials wanting to take the first steps to becoming a director, he encouraged them by saying, “If there’s any way you can put together resources & make a full length feature film, I feel like that’s the best introduction to the industry. I think with all the equipment that is available, there is always ways to create & make a film. Do it with people you trust.” To watch the full interview, the link is provided below.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Could Get a Second Spinoff

Screen Shot 2017-03-13 at 7.34.13 PM

By: Briana Phipps

The Vampire Diaries has come to an end but that doesn’t mean the story is over.

Co-creator Julie Plec tells The Hollywood Reporter that she already has an idea for another TVD spinoff (The Originals will debut its fourth season on March 17).

Friday’s series finale alluded to “another story” for character Caroline Forbes (Candice King), who ends up opening a school for supernatural children like her own — funded by none other than her former love, Klaus (Joseph Morgan). While the duo will not interact on the upcoming season of The Originals, they potentially could in the future.

“Obviously our timelines did not match up, so Caroline and Klaus are not coming face-to-face in this season. That being said, we do have crossover elements in the upcoming season of The Originals that’s about to start airing, and it all brings it back to what I see as a future for either The Originals or another piece of the franchise to launch off of the end of The Originals. So I look forward to being able to play around in that sandbox and see if I can make something of it,” says Plec.

While Plec isn’t actively working on the spinoff, she does plan to start after she takes a break. “There’s a lot of different things floating around in my head,” she says, “and the first thing I’m going to do is not write and take a vacation. And then, when I come back on the other side of that, I’m going to go back to work.”

The CW president Mark Pedowitz told THR this week that the fate of The Originals is not tied to TVD, so the show could potentially continue beyond the upcoming season. “Look, the show stands on its own. We have not premiered it yet; it’s a week away,” he said. “This will be a decision we make in the May scheduling. But I hope to be able to announce at the May upfront that it’s returning. That’s my hope.”

As for the second spinoff, he added, “Julie and I have only had casual discussions about it. I actually guessed what her plans were in one of our casual discussions. I saw them coming. I think that is a discussion that we can have as we go into development. I think she had it set up the right way.”

To clarify: He’s not ruling anything out.

“I work in show business,” he said. “You can’t.”

The Originals premieres Friday, March 17, at 8 p.m. on The CW. Would you watch another Vampire Diariesspinoff? Sound off in the comments section, below.

‘Riverdale’ Renewed for Season 2 at The CW

Screen Shot 2017-03-07 at 6.35.35 PM

By: Briana Phipps

Go ahead and order that second Chock’lit Shake. The CW has just renewed “Riverdale” for Season 2.

While “Riverdale” hasn’t precisely been a juggernaut in its first six outings, averaging a 0.4 in the 18-49 demographic and 1.16 million viewers, it adds a healthy 78% in the CW-coveted 18-34 demographic in Nielsen’s Live+7 ratings, and with the network’s massive output deal with Netflix that sees all CW series put on the service eight days after their seasons end, those numbers are pretty much gravy.

The series, essentially “Gossip Girl” meets “Twin Peaks,” has been generally well-received. Variety‘s Sonia Saraiya called it “an eerie and offbeat take on the high school mythos — both addictive and confusing in equal parts.”

The CW has already given renewals to “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and five other series, essentially bringing back its entire slate — the lone shows not renewed are fall dramas “Frequency” and “No Tomorrow.” “The Vampire Diaries” wraps up its seven-season run this Friday, with period drama “Reign” also ending after its current season.

Based on the characters from Archie Comics, “Riverdale” is from Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, in association with Berlanti Productions, with executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“Supergirl,” “Glee”), Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”), Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”) and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics).

This news was first reported by Variety.

The Vampire Diaries Will Sign Off in March as The CW Shakes Up Its Midseason Schedule

screen-shot-2016-11-16-at-1-37-52-pm

By: Briana Phipps

After eight bloody seasons and approximately an entire ocean’s worth of tears, The Vampire Diaries is going to perform one final heart-ripping act.

The CW announced its midseason lineup Wednesday and the adventures of the Brothers Salvatore will officially come to a close when the show’s series finale airs Friday, March 10 at 8/7c. The network is still in talks with Nina Dobrev about returning for the finale but nothing has been confirmed. The vacancy left by TVD will be filled by Season 4 of the show’s spin-off, The Originals, which will premiere a week later on March 17.

But the departure of The Vampire Diaries is hardly the biggest shakeup coming to The CW this winter. With the exception of Monday nights, which will remain the same and see Supergirl lead into Jane the Virgin, the network is rearranging its entire schedule to make room for its newest drama, Riverdale, and the season premieres of returning series The 100, Reign and iZombie.

Described as a subversive take on the popular Archie comics, the live-action Riverdale will debut Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9/8c after a new episode of Supergirl, which moves up an hour to 8/7c. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, which recently received an additional four episodes, will then move to Tuesdays at 9/8c after new episodes of The Flash beginning Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Meanwhile, the fourth season of post-apocalyptic drama The 100 will debut Wednesday, Feb. 1 in the post-Arrow timeslot, and Reign will slide into Fridays at 9/8c beginning Friday, Feb. 10. Unfortunately, because The CW has just 10 hours of programming available each week, this means fans of iZombie will have to wait until April for new episodes. The show’s third season kicks off with back-to-back episodes Tuesday, April 4 at 8/7c but will settle nicely into its familiar post-Flash timeslot the following week.

Freshman series No Tomorrow and Frequency will not receive additional episodes this season and will air their finales Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 9/8c and Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 9/8c, respectively. Additionally, the second season of the critically acclaimed Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will wrap up its 13-episode run Friday, Feb. 3 at 9/8c.

Here’s the full easy-to-read schedule, complete with new dates and times.

Monday

8/7c: Supergirl

9/8c: Jane the Virgin

8/7c: The Flash
