Add Martin Kove to the growing list of people who want Elisabeth Shue to reprise her role as Ali in The Karate Kid spinoff, Cobra Kai.
Season 3 of Cobra Kai was just greenlit by YouTube.
Kove came on AfterBuzz TV to talk about the show and its upcoming third season, and said Shue would add some great drama to the show.
“I think it would be interesting for her [Elisabeth Shue] to come back. It would be interesting for her, because he [Johnny] ha–, he doesn’t have much now,” said Kove, “and I think he would, his character would put so much emotion, I would say, stability on that girl. You know, when you’re down and out, you’re not working, you’re an actor, all of a sudden your relationship has become so important. It’s what we lean on, because everything else is really tough. We’ve been blowing the auditions, blowing; and you put all the emphasis on the relationship. I think that’s what he would do. And that would create great drama, great drama. Especially on how I, he would deal with me and Ralph.”
Cobra Kai season 2 ended with Johnny, played by William Zabka, losing his Karate dojo to Sensei Kreese, played by Kove. Johnny also lost all of his students.
Kove also shared how he wants his character to exit the show in the future.
“He could make, which would be really attractive for me, to make transitions into a greater realm of decency, you know, but always have this edge,” said Kove. “You know, how many times have we seen the bad guys turn good in movies and they always die. You know, the bad guys turning good always die in movies. And so, something for like down the line. And they [creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald] would plan something.”
Season 2 of Cobra Kai was released on Netflix in April. A premiere date for Season 3 has not yet been announced.
