Liam Cunningham says he doesn’t let the Game of Thrones books get in the way of his acting.
Speaking with AfterBuzz TV to promote his new series, The Hot Zone, Cunningham says he the script is the only piece of writing he cares about.
“I tend to avoid reading them bec–, because, em, I don’t want the ideas of the author getting into my head when, when the script is my Bible,” said Cunningham.
He admitted Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin has given him grief about not reading his books. However, he says he wants to focus solely on what written for him to act out.
“I try and avoid them because, eh, they’re not necessar–, necessarily required for what I’ve been asked to do. Eh, I don’t see it as an escape or anything. I just, I need to concentrate on the bits between page one and the last page of the script without being distracted by what’s in the books,” said Cunningham. “They’re two different animals.”
Game of Thrones is closing out its 8th and final season right now on HBO. The final episode airs this Sunday, May 19th.
Cunningham’s new show, The Hot Zone, premieres on National Geographic on May 27th.
