When it was announced there would be another Hellboy movie made, many fans wondered if any of the original actors would be involved in the production. One of the actors fans had hoped to see what Doug Jones, who portrayed the role of Abe Sapien.
While it was published that Jones would not be a part of the new movie, Jones finally revealed why, in an interview with Michael Clouse on Popcorn Talk Network’s I Could Never Be.
“I was offered a cameo in the, in the movie, yes; not to play Abe Sapien,” said Jones. “It was another, another, uh, character creature thing. And um, I couldn’t do it because of my, of my, uh, uh, Star Trek schedule and I, I had also injured my shoulder, which I didn’t really talk about out loud that much. And, it was a very physical role that I would not be, I would not be healed enough to do it by the time that rolled up. So, so between Star Trek and my shoulder it was just, I couldn’t do it.”
Jones made sure to point out that he has no ill-will towards any of the cast and crew of the new movie. Instead, he wishes them nothing but success.
“Absolutely I’m going to go see it and I wish them well,” said Jones. “Reboots are, are a reality of Hollywoodland, right? Of course, right? Yeah, so, uh, it was inevitable that this would happen and, at some point with something I was in. Um, no, I will absolutely watch the new one and I, and I do. Like I said, I still have friends involved with it, so I wish them well, absolutely.”
Hellboy opened in theaters April 12th.
