Game of Thrones Creators Set to Helm a New Wave of Star Wars Movies
The sequel trilogy of Star Wars is coming to an end with 2019’s Episode IX, but Disney is already loading up with new areas of storytelling from a galaxy far far away. On Tuesday, Lucasfilm announced that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will produce and write a new saga of Star Wars films.
In an official statement on starwars.com, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy voiced her trust in the duo, and her excitement for the future.“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
So far, no release date has been set, and no potential plot details have been revealed.
This is intriguing news, as Lucasfilm has already announced that Rian Johnson would be developing a Star Wars trilogy of his own. Between these two separate series, and the ongoing Star Wars anthology films, fans will have a wide range of Star Wars content on the big screen for the foreseeable future.
