Disney in Talks to Purchase 20th Century Fox

Under CEO Bob Iger’s leadership, The Walt Company Disney has thrived. Disney has grown significantly by purchasing some of the most notable companies and franchises in entertainment, such as Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. It appears Iger is not done acquiring new assets. On Monday, CNBC reported that 20th Century Fox has been in discussions with Disney about possibly selling most of the company. Disney would not be acquiring all of Fox, but only the film studio and some television properties such as National Geographic and FX. Sources at CNBC also claim that Disney would not be buying the fox local broadcast affiliates. Negotiations are not currently happening, but could continue at any moment considering the sporadic nature of the situation.

This deal would make sense and be beneficial for both sides. Fox is apparently interested in focusing only on news and sports, while Disney is certainly content with receiving the plethora of film rights that Fox owns. This would include Marvel, who is owned by Disney, reacquiring the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

If this deal ever happens, one can almost guarantee that Marvel Studios will find a way to integrate the X-Men and reboot the Fantastic Four as soon as they can.
