Creator and star of British superhero web series ‘The Few’ Sam Benjamin has filmed a role in the Hollywood superhero blockbuster ‘Justice League’ that will be released on November 17th.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Jason Mamoa as Aquaman.

On Being Cast

Sam who was a special guest at Afterbuzz last November, says he is thrilled to be cast in this huge Warner Bros sequel to ‘Batman V Superman’, having grown up reading DC comic books and citing the Batman Animated Series as one of the biggest influences on his work as a performer.

Tired of waiting for permission to play a part in a sci-fi show, Sam created his own superhero series to star in ‘The Few’, which was released on YouTube and Facebook in February this year. The pro-activity paid off because he is now part of the cast of the DC Extended Universe.

While he can’t reveal much about his role in the story, he did say that his character is ‘action packed’ and that he felt very honoured to be shooting on the Warner Bros lot just outside of Watford in England.

‘Many of the DC characters and the stories from DC comics inspired, consoled and informed me as a kid. I remember when my Mum couldn’t find me a babysitter so I’d go into her hairdressers and she’d sent me to the newsagents with a couple of quid. I always bought a Batman comic. I remember getting sucked into the Knightfall storyline! That was one of the first arcs that had me falling down the DC rabbit hole!’

On Zack Synder

Sam worked with Zack Synder on his character’s scenes so is anxious to see the final cut, which is being executed by Avengers’ director Joss Whedon who took over from Synder, and reportedly has filmed lots of new scenes.

‘I had such a blast working with Zack. He’s one of the most passionate, energetic and inspiring directors I’ve worked with so far in my career. Sadly I didn’t get to work with Joss, so I’m very interested to see how the final version of the film plays on the big screen. Regardless of how much I play a part in it, with those two at the helm, I’ve got a feeling the film is going to be one hell of a thrill ride for superhero fans.’

From Peaky Blinders to Doctor Who…to Hollywood

Viewers may be familiar with Merseyside born actor Sam Benjamin, who played Cillian Murphy’s duplicitous Border Officer in the third series of Peaky Blinders, and for his one episode star turn in Doctor Who from earlier this year. Sam says he has his eye on more Hollywood movie roles and is often likened to a certain A lister…

On his superhero crush

‘Obviously I’ve got a major superhero crush on Gal Gadot. Who hasn’t?! Luckily I didn’t have any scenes with Wonder Woman so I didn’t have to worry about not being able to keep my cool!’

On people saying he is like Ben Affleck

Sam commented that it’s funny that he’s in a Ben Affleck film because he often gets likened to the Oscar winning director, actor and screenwriter.

‘I get it a lot. Especially when I am doing an American accent, I always get people saying ‘oh hello young Ben Affleck’. I love his work, so I’ll take it as a compliment. I’ve also got my eye on that Batman role when he hangs up his cape and cowl!’
