They have personality.
They have dance versatility.
They had what it took to secure a coveted top 4 spot in the So You Think You Can Dance season 14 finale.
The season finale will be split between Monday, September 18th and the winner for America’s Favorite Dancer will be revealed after a entertainment-packed show on September 25th.
After Monday night’s top four was announced – there was a palpable juxtaposition of emotions backstage by dancers, judges, and choreographers.
The shock of the night was front-runner and show favorite, Logan Hernandez (partnered with All-Star, Allison Holker) not carrying enough votes by America to make it as a top 4 finalist.
“I’m leaving with my heart full of love, my head high, I feel like I did leave a mark on the stage,” Logan explains when asked what the experience has meant to him. As many SYTYCD fans know, this is not the end of the road for Logan. He is open to all of the new and exciting adventures coming his way. Travis Wall, who won an Emmy on Saturday for his Choreography on SYTYCD, is proof that you don’t have to win the competition to completely change the landscape of the dance world.
Logan certainly left his mark on the hearts of many this season.
“I was surprised Logan wasn’t in it, at the same time I’m thrilled with America’s vote,” Executive Producer and Judge Nigel Lythgoe said when asked who he was surprised by in the top 4. He continues to explain that even though it’s disappointing Logan did not make it in the final four – he “wouldn’t know who he’d take out of the top 4.”
That has been the story of this season on SYTYCD, each dancer in the top 10 is a remarkable talent soeach elimination proved to be excruciating for the judges.
Both Lythgoe and Judge Mary Murphy agreed they are relieved the voting and fate of the contestants are completely in the hands of America going forward in the competition.
Last night’s first double elimination of the season cut Kaylee Millis’ journey into the finale short as well. Her unique dance style will be missed by many on SYTYCD, but like Logan she will have a bright future continuing to impact the dance community.
That means contestants: Taylor Sieve, Lex Isimoto, Koine Iwasaki, and Chris “Kiki” Nyemchek earned their way as a top 4 finalist in season 14 finale.
“Absolute madness, I don’t know what to expect, I never ever ever thought this could happen,” Taylor exclaims when asked what her thoughts were on being a finalist. “It still hasn’t sunk in,” her co-finalist and boyfriend Lex, told AfterBuzz TV. He explains in detail that he owes everything to Gabby, his All-Star partner.
“I think every single one of us is different, we’re all so different and then have to come together to do all these different styles of dance. I mean two Japanese people in the top 4 that’s…Let’s go Japan!” Koine says with excitement when asked if being from Japan and her uniqueness helped her into the finale.
“She’s MVP, I love her to death and wouldn’t be here with out her,” Kiki gushes about his All-Star Jenna Johnson, who he believes is the “secret ingredient” to getting him into the top 4.
All the contestants expressed their deep gratitude for being voted into the finale by America!
What an accomplishment for these dancers but now, it’s all about the finale. Each contestant will be put through the most intense week of dance they’ve ever experienced for the reward of being named, Americas’s Favorite Dancer.
“Learn, Earn, and you’ll get a return,” Murphy so eloquently states during Monday’s live taping. She couldn’t be more right when it comes to how much effort and perseverance these contestants will need to put forth moving into the finale.
