The reigning Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields stopped by AfterBuzz TV Studios to chat with host Tiege Dooley-Panko about her experience representing America and what’s next for her.

Savvy has been traveling around the country for the past year and said she’s learned so much about herself and the people who live here. “I’ve learned that we’re a lot more similar than we think we are,” Savvy said. “We see so much division in the media that’s portrayed but I’ve been fortunate to witness that we all want the exact same thing. We all want the people we love to be safe, we all want to feel loved and we all want to feel like we have the ability to do as much as
our potential allows us.”

As for Savvy, she said, “I’ve grown a lot and become a lot stronger and that’s been something I’ve become a little prideful about,” Savvy said. “I look back and see sweet Savvy and she knew nothing.”

Savvy told AfterBuzz she has tried to be a good example to girls on social media. She said depression was something she’s dealt with and she doesn’t want other girls to feel like that because of social media comparisons.

“I had a goal at the beginning of the year to be a Miss America that was very transparent of the really great days and the really hard days,” Savvy said. “Instagram shows 10% of my job and my life is the whole 125,000%.”

“No one has anything together, we’re all trying to figure out what it means to be an adult,” Savvy told AfterBuzz.

Savvy said one of the best experiences as Miss America was this past Thanksgiving she spent in Kuwait. She spent the holiday with members of the military serving overseas.

“I’ve never been more proud to be American than when I was standing in an entire room of men and woman who are sacrificing everything for our freedom,” Savvy said.

As for what’s next for Savvy, she said she is looking forward to living life to the fullest.

“You become obsessed with seeing so many world changers and people who are making a difference and being adventurous and you want to continue to do that.” Savvy said.

Savvy will crown the next Miss America in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Sunday September 10, 2017.
