Warner Bros and DC Announce Gavin O’Connor to Direct Suicide Squad Sequel

By Sam Curran

Following a lengthy search Warner Bros and DC have finally announced their choice for who will direct the sequel to Suicide Squad.  Gavin O’Connor, who has directed films like The Accountant, Warrior and Pride and Glory will be directing the film featuring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and the rest of their crew of villains.

The studio had been searching for a fit replacement to writer and director of the original film, David Ayer, considering directors like Mel Gibson and Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed The Shallows.  The original Suicide Squad globally grossed $745 million, and showed promise for a successful second installment causing the studio to be diligent in their search for a director.  Gavin O’Connor’s experience in directing strong action films sparks expectation for an intense and enjoyable sequel.

It is unclear when they will begin shooting for the sequel as Margot Robbie is currently shooting for Mary Queen of Scots, and Will Smith is shooting for Aladdin, and is scheduled to film Gemini Man after.
