Jedi fans will be pleased to know that Carrie Fisher will in fact reprise her role as Leia in “Star Wars: Episode IX.”

Fisher’s brother Todd Fisher and daughter Billie Lourd have recently given Disney and Lucasfilm permission to use footage of the late actress in “Star Wars: Episode IX,” scheduled to be released in 2019.

“Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is, you don’t,” Todd Fisher said. “I’m not the only part in the equation, but I think the people deserve to have her. She’s owned by them.”

Fisher had already completed filming in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which will not be altered in any way according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Rumors suggested Leia’s part was going to be much larger in Episode IX, leading fans to speculate the inclusion of a CGI creation of Carrie Fisher as Leia. Since then, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that there are no plans to recreate the late actress digitally.

A Star Wars Celebration is scheduled to take place this week in Orlando, Florida from April 13-16. Not only will Carrie Fisher be honored at the convention, but the first trailer for The Last Jedi will also be released.
