Warner Bros. has decided to option Brit Bennett’s debut novel ‘The Mothers,’ with Kerry Washington in the producer’s chair.
Washington will produce under the Simpson Street Banner alongside Natalie Krinsky.
Bennett will write the script and executive produce the project based on her novel ‘The Mothers,’ which was originally published in October 2016 by Riverhead, a division of Penguin.
The book is a New York Times bestseller is set in a small black community in Southern California where the secrets of its residents haunts them all. This story explores young love, friendship, and loss. The story is centered around Nadia, a teen who begins a relationship with the pastor’s son and gets pregnant while grieving her mother’s suicide.
‘The Mothers’ will be Simpson Street’s first feature project for Warner Bros.
There is no date connected with the project as of yet.
Washington continues to star in the hit ABC series ‘Scandal’ which airs Thursdays at 9/8c.
